About Dario
The Man Behind
the Story
After seventeen years inside one of America's harshest prison systems, Dario Guevara was deported to Mexico — the country where he was born, but a place he had to rebuild a life from scratch.
In 2018, something extraordinary happened: he met Julie, a French-Canadian woman who saw the man he truly was. They married in Mexico in May 2019, and for six years they built a life together, welcoming two children and striving every day for stability, purpose, and joy.
But life in Mexico came with real hardships — financial instability, limited infrastructure, and raising a family far from Julie's support network. In 2025, they made one of the hardest decisions a family can make: Julie and the children returned to Canada part of the year, where they have access to Julie's family, stronger government family support, better infrastructure, and opportunities Mexico simply doesn't offer its citizens.
Now the family lives between two countries — and Dario is separated from his wife and children. His past makes the path to Canada long and costly: he must first apply for criminal rehabilitation, then be sponsored by Julie — a process with a minimum 24-month wait and thousands of dollars in fees.
Dario refused to start a GoFundMe and ask for handouts. Instead, he wrote his story. His book is his way of earning that future — and sharing something meaningful with every person who helps him get there.
Why This Matters
Since July 2025, Julie and their two children live in Canada — and Dario is in Mexico, separated from his family by borders, bureaucracy, and the long shadow of a past he has already paid for many times over.
To reunite with his family, Dario must complete a criminal rehabilitation application followed by a spousal sponsorship through Julie — a process with a minimum 24-month wait and over $10,000 CAD in immigration fees, legal costs, and expenses related to their situation.
Dario did not launch a GoFundMe. He wrote his story — and GenieBooks directs 100% of net profits from every copy sold directly to Dario's immigration goal. Every purchase is a transaction with purpose.
When the $10,000 goal is reached, we celebrate together. The book will continue on the GenieBooks website — but right now, every purchase is a direct investment in a father getting back to his children.
